One eye on the cookie - part two

forgot to put what the cookie was saying....

OOOHHHH NOOOOO MMMMRRRR BBBIIILLLLLL

Seriously - I heard him just as he was crushed in the jaws of the slobbering doggie.

One eye on the cookie...

It's that time of year - Archway's Gingerbread Man cookies have finally appeared in our neighborhood Publix...

Somebody really really loves them!! Ok - we BOTH do.

Two eyes on the cookie....notice the expression never changes - give me the coooookkkkiiieeee

Egads - why is the design wall totally blank?????

TAAAA DAAAAAA

Hidden Moons is FINISHED!!  Well - if there is to be no border it's finished.  Just need to trot over to Janice's house and put it on her bed for the final measuring so we can make the final decision!!

But alas, the fish sticks are ready and time for supper!!
Tune in next time  - the border decision will be made and the the quilt will be all neatly rolled up and ready for quilting!!

Only Seven more rows to put together!!

Once I finish putting the 7 rows of squares together, I can start attaching the parts and pieces then....it will be ready for the border decision and then off to the quilting machine.  Well, after I sew about 10 or so extra inches to the batting I have on hand - it is only 90x108 so I have to add some to make it work.

My little helper - she is trying to get to a piece of thread that is hanging down.

She gave up and is all settled into her "batting" box  - get it - batting box - ha ha

The first two sets of diamonds are already sewn together - the others are pinned to the wall

The view from my sewing table - helps to have a reference when I'm working with the small squares - before they become diamonds.

Time to call it a night - I'm going to hopefully get all of the diamonds together tomorrow.

Where has my week gone!!  Only two days before the I have to leave my sanctuary and return to the real world ;-(

Calling it a night...

Whew - I am tired!!  I shut everything down because I thought it was 10:30 and it's only 8:30!!

The quilt is taking shape.  Got the very top row finished and I'm leaving it separate since the whole thing won't fit on the wall.  Row 13 and 14 won't fit either ;-0 - they are on my sewing table.

It's going together row by row.  Started out doing squares (sewing full diamonds) but I lost some of the points when I trimmed so I switched to row by row.  Tried to remember how I did the first Hidden Moons but I can't recall - must be the result of all that heavy metal music in the 70s...

Hidden Moons - Design Wall!!

Hidden Moons is on the design wall.  I didn't like the way it looked - was not balanced in color so I made another full set of diamonds and a half set to even out the colors.

Of course, now that I have done this, an additional row will have to be added to even out the overall look.

But....don't ya just hate buts because this is a big one...

This changes the size!!  Without borders it will be 102x 91 but it has to be done - I can't finish it unless the ends match.

BELOW -
This was before the additional dark diamond and borders - note the far left hand side where the arrows are all light but the other end are light/dark.   I didn't like that so I cut 12 more

BELOW
After the additional 1 and 1/2 diamond.  Note how the ends now match.

It just fits on the wall and I had to go around the lights so that I could get a good look at it  - sorry about the bright light - had to stand on my step stool to get a shot of it.

Time to quit for the day

Except for the two and one half hour break for supper and my NCIS hunks, I have been sewing since 9:30 am or so, time to call it quits until morning.

I have sewn all of the squares to the moons, and cut them in half.  They are ready to iron, trim and start placing on the design wall.

Poor Ball Joint, it has to come down again - I guess that is my red headed quilt, it has lingered for more than a year now, first they were lonely 10 inch squares until they became appliqued joints, now they hang out on my design wall - literally - waiting for me to make a decision on a design and start sewing them together!!

Tune in next time - everything should be up on the wall by tomorrow afternoon!!

This is a smaller version of Hidden Moons

This version of Hidden Moons is 60 x 60.

It has three full diamond & two half diamond squares encompassed in four rows with an approx 6 inch border.

Janice's will have six full and two half diamond squares in six rows and a border of approx 6 inches.

Hidden Moons - Part one is complete

Finished sewing the moon parts together.  Got them all ironed and ready to pair with the squares tomorrow.

Once I sew the moons and the squares together, I'll cut them in  half and iron.

Hidden Moons and I'm a dork...

The big day finally came.  Janice and I headed south to McDonough Ga for A Scarlet Thread - the most awesome, make you slobber like baby quilt shop around.

We were there to pick out the fabric for her Hidden Moons quilt.

Why am I a dork...I thought that they sold the batiks in packets like I get every month - well ok - they used to but since they were not selling well, they only cut enough for those of us in the Batik Club.  Fear not, Janice had a fabulous time picking out her fabrics and she has a great eye for color.

We handed over our precious bolts of fabric to the cutting lady and watched as each of our choices were carefully cut.

After we were handed our fabulous fabric, all cut and nicely stacked, we wondered around the store.  There was a quilt hanging in the window that made me stop in my tracks - it was called Red Door - Janice talked me into getting it - yea - like I needed ANY arm twisting to buy a quilt pattern.    She also talked me into quilt Diva - that one is going on my door.  It is a pattern by Amy Bradley - she has some of the funniest patterns about us quilters.

We got home, took our babies for a jaunt around the lake.

After a brisk walk around the lake, it was time to start the process of cutting out the pieces for the quilt.

I laid out all of the fabrics, I counted out each row on the printout that I taped together THREE times so that I cut the right amount!!  I  am making this quilt into a king size - the original was 60x60 and anybody that knows me is well aware that I HATE math!!  Not a good thing for a quilter but I can draw crooked lines and have almost every size of acrylic ruler available - well except for the 7 inch - haven't gotten that one yet..

But, late into the evening, they were all cut but the last two mediums.  Had to get some sleep - not good to use rotary cutters and measure when tired.

Finished the last two today and they are all ready to go, bobbins are spun, machine threaded.  Hopefully I will have most of the pieces sewn and ready for cutting in half by tomorrow afternoon!!

First CUT!!

In progress

Cut and ready to pair together for sewing

Red Door Pattern - already digging for the perfect colors

I have some grey/black swirl fabric that is a perfect match for my hair!!

My new Quilting Blog

I have decided to start blogging about my sewing.  It will help me keep up with the projects I'm working on and the adventures I have in my sewing room - like dropping the hot iron onto the new acrylic carpet - sole plate down, almost cutting my finger off with the rotary cutter - yea - never a dull moment.

I love to sew - someday I will get to stay home and really expand on the quilting part of my sewing.  Right now I am a stippling and loop de loop queen - not enough hours in the day to learn those fancy feathering stitches.
